چکیده

Description in terms of physicochemistry and heat and mass transfer of the combustion front propagation in a reactive porous medium remains a challenge to science. The literature about this subject distinguishes two types of problems. The first considers only combustion of the gas phase inside an inert solid porous medium. In the second type, the solid phase reacts with the gas phase; Chemical reactions such as pyrolysis of the solid and, further oxidation of the residual carbon occur, accompanied by changes in the physical structure of the solid phase. The media are called noninert porous medium. This latter case corresponds to the combustion process considered in this work.

Numerical Simulation of Combustion with Porous Medium in I.C. Engine

Porous media has interesting features in compared with free flame combustion due to the extended of the lean flammability limits and lower emissions. Advanced new generation of internal combustion (IC) engines are expected to have far better emissions levels both gaseous and particulate matter, at the same time having far lower fuel consumption on a wide range of operating condition. These c...

Experimental Study of Nanofluids Flow in a Micromodel as Porous Medium

For better understanding the effect of nanofluid flow in a porous medium, a set of experiments were conducted on a horizontal glass micromodel for Al2O3-water nanofluids. To characterize the flow of nanofluids the same experiment was done by pure water. The glass micromodel was constructed by a photolithography techniqu...

Combustion Fronts in a Porous Medium with Two Layers

We study a model for the lateral propagation of a combustion front through a porous medium with two parallel layers having different properties. The reaction involves oxygen and a solid fuel. In each layer, the model consists of a nonlinear reaction–diffusion–convection system, derived from balance equations and Darcy’s law. Under an incompressibility assumption, we obtain a simple model whose ...

Simulation of Methane Partial Oxidation in Porous Media Reactor for Hydrogen Production

The enactment of strict laws on reducing pollution and controlling combustion has given rise to the necessity of considering a new approach to energy supply in the future. One such approach is the use of hydrogen as an alternative to fossil fuels. Hydrogen and synthesis gas are typically produced through the partial oxidation of methane in porous media. This process was theoretically simula...

Effect of Initial Stress on Propagation of Love Waves in an Anisotropic Porous Layer

In the present paper, effect of initial stresses on the propagation of Love waves has been investigated in a fluid saturated, anisotropic, porous layer lying in welded contact over a prestressed, non-homogeneous elastic half space. The dispersion equation of phase velocity has been derived. It has been found that the phase velocity of Love waves is considerably influenced by porosity and anisot...
